Polyethylene/ Polypropylene Jacket Anticorrosion Pipe Coating
 
- PLASTYKOTE® is a thermoplastic coating applied to steel pipes as anticorrosion protection.

- PLASTYKOTE® mechanical resistance is a preference when there are risks of particularly severe coating damages.

- Different versions are available according to pipelines service temperatures.
 
TWO LAYER POLYETHYLENE
 
- This version consists of an outer polyethylene layer and a bonding layer of copolymer adhesive which provides adhesion to steel surfaces. 

- Two layer polyethylene issuitable for service temperatures up to 60°C depending on the type of materials used (LDPE-MDPE-HDPE). Typical coating thickness is from 1,2 mm to 3 mm.
 
THREE LAYER POLYETHYLENE
 
- To improve anticorrosion performance and adhesion, an additional layer of epoxy primer is sprayed onto pipe surface prior to the adhesive layer and polyethylene top layer application. 

- Three layer polyethylene is suitable for service temperatures from 60 to 80°C (85°C max) depending on the types of materials used (LDPE-MDPE-HDPE).

- Typical coating thickness is from 1,2 mm to 3 mm.
 
THREE LAYER POLYPROPYLENE
 
- If a wider service temperature range and high stiffness is required, adhesive and top layers are based on polypropylene instead of polyethylene. Three layer polypropylene is suitable for service temperatures up to 120°C (130°C max). Typical coating thickness is from 1,2 mm to 3 mm.
 
- The application method is similar for all PLASTYKOTE® coatings. The pipe surface is blast cleaned, heated and then sprayed with epoxy primer (except two layers), followed by the application of adhesive copolymer and polyolefi n polymers, wrap or annular extruded, one over the other.
 
Fusion Bonded Epoxy Powder (FBE) Anticorrosion Pipe Coating
 
- POWDERKOTE® is a powder epoxy thermosetting coating applied for anticorrosion protection to steel pipeline.
 
- The pipe is fi rst blast cleaned and heated. Then epoxy powder is spray applied by electrostatic guns to melt and form a uniform layer that hardness within a minute from application.
 
- The thickness of POWDERKOTE® ranges from 350 to 700μm.
 
- POWDERKOTE® coating is suitable for pipeline service temperature up to 94°C. But however special formulated products can be used on pipelines operating over120°C
 
 
Asphalt or Coal Tar Enamel Pipe Coating and Wrapping
 
- WRAPKOTE® is an asphalt or coal-tar based coating applied to the external surface of pipes with an inner and outer glass fi bre reinforcement.
- Pipes previously preheated and cleaned, are coated with a bitumen or coal tar based primer and allowed to dry. 
 
- Then on the rotating and advancing pipe, a bitumen/coal-tar layer is applied while wrapped with one or two layers of glass cloth reinforcement. A layer of bitumen/ coal-tar impregnated glass cloth is fi nally applied as mechanical protection.
 
- The coating thickness and number of inner wraps depend on the type of service the pipe is intended for.

- The total coating thickness varies between 3,5 mm and 7 mm. The pipes may be lime-coated to prevent sticking during storage and to minimise softening under sunlight
 
Polyurethane Tar Liquid Paint Anticorrosion Pipe Coating
 
- PURTARKOTE® is a double component polyurethane elastomer coating mixed with coal-tar, spray applied, for anticorrosion protection of steel pipes.

- The pipe surface is fi rst blast cleaned and preheated, then polyurethane tar is sprayed onto the pipe surface up to the required thickness.

- The two separate components are independently pumped to the spray tip where a static mixer is installed for perfect blending.

- PURTARKOTE® is suitable for pipeline service temperatures up to 65°C and its standard thickness is 2 mm.
 

Thermal Pipe Coating of Sprayed PUF Covered with an Extruded PE Jacket

- THERMAKOTE® is a thermal insulation of rigid polyurethane foam applied to the external surface of pipes transporting any type of hot and cold fl uids with low heat losses.
 
- The insulation material is the copolymer obtained by the reaction of two liquid components, isocyanate, including the reactive group NCO, and a mixture of polyethers, including the reactive group OH and the foaming agent.
 
- The two components are pumped at the correct ratio to the spray head where they are carefully mixed.
 
- The finer the micro-cellular structure of the mass is, the higher the content of closed cells is, the lower the thermal conductivity.
Foams obtained by the described chemical reaction are suitable for using both criogenic temperature as low as -100°C and temperatures up to 120°C.
 
- The application of foam insulation to the pipe surface is done by a spraying method that produces foam with enhanced mechanical and insulation properties, due to its fi ner cell structure and shape.
 
- The pipe surface is blast cleaned before chemicals application. Epoxy tar or other anticorrosion primers may be applied if required.
 
- The polyurethane is then sprayed to form a layer of an established density and thickness. Finally a polyethylene jacket is continuously extruded directly onto the insulation by annular or side application.
 
Polypropylene Based Thermal Insulation Systems for Deep Water
 
- WETISOKOTE® covers the whole scope of Five Layer Polypropylene based Wet Insulation Systems for Shallow, Deep and Ultra-Deep Water environments (beyond 3000 m WD).
 
- Socotherm’s Multy-Pass® process provides nowadays the chance to combine different kinds of Polypropylene compounds in order to comply with the most stringent Project requirements.
 
- The Multy-Pass® System consists in the application of several PP layers with different mechanical and thermal performances by means of a high-technology side extrusion resulting in a project tailored WETISOKOTE® Insulation Systems.

- Five Layer Solid Polypropylene (5LPPS)
- Five Layer Polypropylene Foam (5LPPF)
- Five Layer Syntactic Polypropylene (5LSyntPP)
 
WETISOKOTE® Five Layer Insulation System description:

- Layer 1: FBE Primer
- Layer 2: PP Co-Polymer Adhesive
- Layer 3: Solid PP
- Layer 4: Insulation PP based Material
- Layer 5: Solid PP Outer Layer
 
WETISOKOTE® Insulation PP based Material (Layer 4) consists in different proprietary Polypropylene compounds which are developed in-house by Socotherm’s State-of-Art process.
 
Insulation PP based material:
- Solid PP resin compound
- Polypropylene Foam compound
- Syntactic Polypropylene compound
 
- The possibility of formulating in-house compounds enhances the overall performance of the WETISOKOTE® Insulation System over other systems, since it is nowadays possible over other systems, since it is nowadays possible to provide of fl exibility the formulation of PP based materials, bringing them as close as possible to the desired thermal and mechanical performance in order to comply with Project demanding requirements. This feature is not only a clear advantage for the In-service performance, but also for coated pipes installation critical conditions.
 
 
Concrete Weight Coating by Impingement Method
 
- CONCRETKOTE® is a heavy concrete coating required to avoid buoyancy for under water pipelines.

- CONCRETKOTE® is applied to anticorrosion and thermal insulation coating such as PLASTYKOTE®, WRAPKOTE®, POWDERKOTE® and THERMAKOTE®.

- It provides further protection against destructive marine environmental and mechanical damages which may occur during handling, transportation or laying operations.

- Concrete is automatically prepared in a batching plant using aggregates, cement and water in the correct proportion.

- The blended mix is impinged onto the pipe in the required thickness while the reinforcing wire-mesh is wrapped and incorporated in the concrete.

- CONCRETKOTE® can be applied at different specifi c gravities (2240-3040 kg/m3) and thickness according to project specifi cation.
 
Concrete Weight Coating by Wrap Extrusion Method
 
- WRAPHEAVYKOTE® is a heavy concrete coating required to avoid buoyancy to under water pipeline.
 
- WRAPHEAVYKOTE® is applied to anticorrosion and thermal insulation coating like PLASTYKOTE®, WRAPKOTE®, POWDERKOTE® and THERMAKOTE®.
 
- It also provides further protection against destructive marine surroundings and mechanical damages which may occur during handling, transportation or laying operations.
 
- The Concrete is automatically prepared, in a batching plant using aggregates, cement and water in correct proportions.
 
- The blended mix is wrapped onto the pipe in required thickness with reinforcing wire-mesh and polyethylene outer wrap.
 
- WRAPHEAVYKOTE® can be applied at different specific gravities (2240-3040 kg/m3) and thickness according to project specification.
